In 2003 the Kenyan government introduced free primary school for all. Little did they know that an 84 year old village elder, Kimani Nganga Maruge, would see this as an opportunity of a lifetime to receive the education he had always been thirsty for, but could never afford. Together with Jane Obinchu, the principal of Maruge's village school, they will try to overcome a controversy and battle an opposition at a governmental level that will allow the human spirit to surface in Maruge's quest for his right for an education - all along learning of Maruge's past involvement with the Mau-Mau and his sacrifices for a liberated Kenya. Maruge was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest first grader ever in January 2005.
